Across the miles

A puja for a loved one far away

Living abroad and want a puja for your parents in India, or the other way round? Book it for them: the pandit performs it with their names in the sankalp, and we send ONE shared Google Meet link so the whole family joins from wherever they are, in one call.

How it works

  1. Tell us who the puja is for, their city, and where the rest of the family will join from.
  2. We fix a time that suits every time zone and send one Google Meet link to share with the family.
  3. Everyone joins the same call; the pandit names the whole family in the sankalp.

Book a Rudrabhishek (रुद्राभिषेक) performed live for your family on a one-on-one video call. An experienced pandit we work with recites the sankalp with your names and gotra and chants the Sri Rudram while your family bathes the Shivling at your home altar with water, milk and the other offerings, step by step, anywhere in the world.

01What the Rudrabhishek is, and when families hold it

Rudrabhishek is the abhishek (ritual bathing) of a Shivling while the Sri Rudram, the hymn to Rudra from the Krishna Yajurveda, is chanted. The Rudram has two parts, the Namakam, a long series of salutations ending in namah, and the Chamakam, a prayer asking for blessings. The liquids poured are traditionally water, milk, curd, honey, ghee, sugar and, in many families, sugarcane juice, followed by bilva leaves.

Families hold it on Mondays, through the month of Shravan, on Maha Shivaratri and on Pradosh (the thirteenth lunar day at dusk), and for health, peace in the family or as thanksgiving. Larger forms repeat the Rudram many times, such as Laghu Rudra; the form for your puja is agreed on WhatsApp.

02What the Rudrabhishek is traditionally done for

  • Traditionally done for peace of mind and health in the family.
  • Traditionally done to calm difficult planetary periods, especially of the Moon and Saturn.
  • Traditionally done as devotion to Shiva on his special days.

When: on Mondays, Pradosh, Shivaratri and through the month of Shravan.

03Count, duration, and what is included

Rudri once (Basic and Advance), Rudram 11 times as Ekadashini (Premium), and Ekadashini with a Rudra havan (Super Premium). Typical durations are listed in each package below; the price, the date, the time and how long the puja takes are confirmed with you on WhatsApp when you book.

Included in every package:

  • Either a live call or a video recording of the puja if you cannot attend, never both
  • All samagri, arranged by the pandit at no extra charge
  • Sankalp in your family's names and gotra
  • Date and muhurat worked out for your city
  • Keepsake certificate after the puja (Certificate included)

Not included:

  • Shipping of prasad
  • Any in-person visit by a pandit

04How the Rudrabhishek works by video call

The Rudrabhishek is performed live by an experienced pandit we work with, on a one-on-one video call with your family. You stay at home, anywhere in the world, and do the offerings with your own hands while the pandit leads. The steps:

  1. Book on WhatsApp: Message us on WhatsApp with the puja you want, your city and country, and your time zone. The button on this page fills in the puja and your time zone for you; you add your city.
  2. Choose the date and muhurat: We suggest dates and times in your own local time. Where the puja calls for a muhurat (an auspicious window), it is worked out from the panchang for the city you are in, not for India.
  3. Samagri arranged for you: The pandit arranges all the samagri for the puja, at no extra charge; you only need a clean, quiet place at home to sit for the call.
  4. Join the video call: At the agreed time you join a one-on-one video call with the pandit from your home altar, on WhatsApp video or Google Meet, whichever your family prefers. It is your family's call alone.
  5. Sankalp with your names and gotra: The pandit begins with the sankalp: the formal statement of the place, the date, the names of the family members, your gotra and the intention of the puja.
  6. The puja: The pandit recites the mantras and guides each offering step by step, so that the hands placing the flowers, the water and the lamp are your own.
  7. Aarti: The puja closes with aarti: you wave the lamp at your altar while the pandit sings, and the whole family can join in.
  8. Prasad guidance: The pandit tells you how to offer and share the prasad, and what to do afterwards with the flowers, the kalash water and the other offerings.

On the call the pandit chants the Rudram while you pour each liquid over the Shivling in turn, washing it with water between them. The pandit tells you when to change from one offering to the next, then guides the decoration with chandan, bilva leaves and flowers, the naivedya and the aarti.

05Who it suits

It suits Shiva devotees, families keeping Shravan Mondays or Maha Shivaratri at home, and families who want a puja for health and peace in the household. Because the abhishek is done with your own hands at your own altar, a video Rudrabhishek is a very personal way to hold it.

06Timing and muhurat

Mondays, Pradosh, the month of Shravan and Maha Shivaratri are the traditional times. Many pandits also check Shiva vaas, the tithi-based rule for where Shiva is said to reside on a given day, before fixing a Rudrabhishek for a personal sankalp. We work these out for your city; dates can also be browsed in our Muhurta Finder.

07Booking, payment and rescheduling

All bookings are made on WhatsApp. You pay on WhatsApp by UPI (in India), PayPal, USDT or card-to-USDT; nothing is paid on this website. Payments are not refundable, but you can reschedule up to two times if you tell us at least 48 hours before the puja (see our refund policy).

The call is on WhatsApp video or Google Meet, whichever your family prefers. The pandit performs the puja in Sanskrit and speaks Hindi; a team member who speaks English joins the live call to help families who prefer English.

If your family cannot attend live, the pandit performs the puja for you and we send you a video of it instead. It is either a live call or a video recording, never both: a live call is not recorded. The price, the date, the time and how long the puja takes are confirmed with you on WhatsApp when you book.

Frequently asked questions

Can Rudrabhishek be done online?
Yes. The pandit chants the Rudram on the video call while your family performs the abhishek with your own hands on a Shivling at home.
We don't have a Shivling. What can we use?
A small stone or metal Shivling is easy to buy at Indian shops and online. Many families also shape a parthiv linga from clean clay on the day; the pandit guides you.
What do we do with the milk and water afterwards?
Customs differ. Many families pour the collected abhishek water into the roots of a plant or tree; the pandit tells you your tradition's practice.
How do I book the Rudrabhishek by video call, and how do I pay?
Tap "Book on WhatsApp" and send the message with your city and time zone. We agree the date, the time and the details with you there. You pay on WhatsApp by UPI (in India), PayPal, USDT or card-to-USDT; nothing is paid on this website.
What if we need to change the date?
You can reschedule up to two times if you tell us at least 48 hours before the puja. Payments are not refundable; the refund policy page has the full terms.
