Across the miles

A puja for a loved one far away

Living abroad and want a puja for your parents in India, or the other way round? Book it for them: the pandit performs it with their names in the sankalp, and we send ONE shared Google Meet link so the whole family joins from wherever they are, in one call.

How it works

  1. Tell us who the puja is for, their city, and where the rest of the family will join from.
  2. We fix a time that suits every time zone and send one Google Meet link to share with the family.
  3. Everyone joins the same call; the pandit names the whole family in the sankalp.

Book a Griha Pravesh puja (गृह प्रवेश) performed live for your new home on a one-on-one video call. An experienced pandit we work with chooses the muhurat for your city, recites the sankalp with your names and gotra, and guides your family through the first entry, the kalash, the Ganesh puja and the household rites, while you stand in your own new home, anywhere in the world.

01What the Griha Pravesh Puja is, and when families hold it

Griha means house and pravesh means entering: Griha Pravesh is the ceremony for entering a house for the first time as a home. Traditional accounts describe three types: apurva, the first entry into a newly built home; sapurva, entry after a long absence or into a home lived in before; and dwandwah, entry after the home has been rebuilt or restored, for example after a disaster. Sources define the second and third differently, and some modern guides use sapurva for a resale or rented home.

The rites usually begin with Ganesh puja, and commonly include the kalash, a Vastu Shanti or Vastu puja for the site, a havan in many families, and the boiling of milk in the new kitchen until it overflows, as a sign of abundance. Our free Griha Pravesh guide explains the types and the usual order in more depth.

02What the Griha Pravesh Puja is traditionally done for

  • Traditionally done to bless a new home before the family settles in.
  • Traditionally done to honour the Vastu Purusha, the spirit of the site.
  • Traditionally done for peace and prosperity in the household.

When: on a muhurat chosen from the panchang for your city, before the family sleeps in the new home.

03Count, duration, and what is included

The Vastu Shanti mantras and, in the upper packages, a havan of 108 ahutis; Premium adds the Satyanarayan Katha. Typical durations are listed in each package below; the price, the date, the time and how long the puja takes are confirmed with you on WhatsApp when you book.

Included in every package:

  • Either a live call or a video recording of the puja if you cannot attend, never both
  • All samagri, arranged by the pandit at no extra charge

  • Keepsake certificate after the puja (Certificate included)

Not included:

  • Any in-person visit by a pandit

04How the Griha Pravesh Puja works by video call

The Griha Pravesh Puja is performed live by an experienced pandit we work with, on a one-on-one video call with your family. You stay at home, anywhere in the world, and do the offerings with your own hands while the pandit leads. The steps:

  1. Book on WhatsApp: Message us on WhatsApp with the puja you want, your city and country, and your time zone. The button on this page fills in the puja and your time zone for you; you add your city.
  2. Choose the date and muhurat: We suggest dates and times in your own local time. Where the puja calls for a muhurat (an auspicious window), it is worked out from the panchang for the city you are in, not for India.
  3. Samagri arranged for you: The pandit arranges all the samagri for the puja, at no extra charge; you only need a clean, quiet place at home to sit for the call.
  4. Join the video call: At the agreed time you join a one-on-one video call with the pandit from your home altar, on WhatsApp video or Google Meet, whichever your family prefers. It is your family's call alone.
  5. Sankalp with your names and gotra: The pandit begins with the sankalp: the formal statement of the place, the date, the names of the family members, your gotra and the intention of the puja.
  6. The puja: The pandit recites the mantras and guides each offering step by step, so that the hands placing the flowers, the water and the lamp are your own.
  7. Aarti: The puja closes with aarti: you wave the lamp at your altar while the pandit sings, and the whole family can join in.
  8. Prasad guidance: The pandit tells you how to offer and share the prasad, and what to do afterwards with the flowers, the kalash water and the other offerings.

On the call the family stands at the threshold of the new home with the kalash. The pandit recites the sankalp and guides the first entry, then the Ganesh puja, the kalash puja and the worship of the Vastu Purusha, and, where you have arranged it, a small havan. In many families the lady of the house then boils milk in the new kitchen while the pandit recites; the puja ends with aarti in the main room.

05Who it suits

It suits families moving into a newly built or bought home, families moving into a rented home who want to bless it, and families returning to a home after a long time away. It is especially useful for families abroad, who often move into a new home far from their family pandit.

Some families also hold a Satyanarayan Puja in the new home, on the same day or soon after.

06Timing and muhurat

Traditionally the muhurat is chosen from the panchang, checking the tithi, the nakshatra, the weekday and the lunar month, and many families avoid periods such as the adhik (extra) month and the weeks when Jupiter or Venus is set. Timings depend on where the home is, so we compute the muhurat for your new home's city, not for India. You can browse Griha Pravesh dates in our Muhurta Finder before you message us.

07Booking, payment and rescheduling

All bookings are made on WhatsApp. You pay on WhatsApp by UPI (in India), PayPal, USDT or card-to-USDT; nothing is paid on this website. Payments are not refundable, but you can reschedule up to two times if you tell us at least 48 hours before the puja (see our refund policy).

The call is on WhatsApp video or Google Meet, whichever your family prefers. The pandit performs the puja in Sanskrit and speaks Hindi; a team member who speaks English joins the live call to help families who prefer English.

If your family cannot attend live, the pandit performs the puja for you and we send you a video of it instead. It is either a live call or a video recording, never both: a live call is not recorded. The price, the date, the time and how long the puja takes are confirmed with you on WhatsApp when you book.

Frequently asked questions

Can Griha Pravesh be done online?
Yes. The family is physically in the new home, which is what the rite needs; the pandit leads the mantras and guides each step by video. Only a full havan may need adapting, depending on your building.
Do we need a muhurat for Griha Pravesh?
Traditionally yes, and it is chosen from the panchang for the home's location. We work it out for your city and suggest times in your local time.
Can we hold Griha Pravesh in a rented home?
Many families do. Some traditions treat a rented or resale home as sapurva; the pandit will advise which form fits your move.
How do I book the Griha Pravesh Puja by video call, and how do I pay?
Tap "Book on WhatsApp" and send the message with your city and time zone. We agree the date, the time and the details with you there. You pay on WhatsApp by UPI (in India), PayPal, USDT or card-to-USDT; nothing is paid on this website.
What if we need to change the date?
You can reschedule up to two times if you tell us at least 48 hours before the puja. Payments are not refundable; the refund policy page has the full terms.
