What is the choghadiya on Dhanteras, 6 November 2026? Dhanteras falls on Friday 6 November 2026. On a Friday the day's eight choghadiyas run Chara, Labha, Amrita, Kala, Shubha, Roga, Udvega, Chara, and the night's begin with Roga, Kala, Labha. In New Delhi that puts Labha at 7:59 to 9:21 AM, Amrita at 9:21 to 10:43 AM and Shubha at 12:05 to 1:27 PM. After sunset the first good slot is Labha, 8:49 to 10:27 PM. The full tables for five cities are below, from Drik Panchang (fetched 25 Oct 2026).
One thing to know before you use them. Drik Panchang says choghadiya is traditionally a travel muhurat, and on its Dhanteras page it advises against using choghadiya to pick the puja time. Many families use choghadiya for buying gold, silver or utensils on the day, and keep the puja for the evening Pradosh window. So this page gives you both.
How choghadiya works, in one minute
The day from sunrise to sunset is cut into eight equal parts, and so is the night from sunset to the next sunrise. Each part gets a name. Drik Panchang lists four good ones (Amrita, Shubha, Labha, Chara), and three to avoid (Roga, Kala, Udvega). It also marks Vaar Vela and Kaal Vela in the day and Kaal Ratri at night, when it says no auspicious work should be started.
Because the parts depend on your own sunrise and sunset, each city has its own clock times. Never copy India's times abroad.

A note on the Shubha slot: Drik Panchang shows it as good, but it also overlaps what Drik labels Kaal Vela for a Friday. Families who avoid Kaal Vela skip it, so the morning Labha and Amrita slots are the cleanest daytime choices.

Times after midnight belong to Saturday 7 November.
How we checked these. We recomputed sunrise and sunset for all five cities with the same astronomy engine that runs our Panchang, then split the day and night into eighths. Every boundary agreed with Drik Panchang's to within one minute; the small gaps come from rounding seconds.
The Dhanteras puja muhurat: Canada and the USA
For the puja itself, Drik Panchang uses the evening Pradosh Kaal and, inside it, the fixed Vrishabha lagna. These are its windows for 6 November 2026 (fetched 25 Oct 2026), in local standard time:
| City | Puja muhurat | Pradosh Kaal |
|---|---|---|
| Toronto | 5:25 to 7:11 PM | 5:02 to 7:50 PM |
| Brampton | 5:27 to 7:13 PM | 5:03 to 7:51 PM |
| Mississauga | 5:27 to 7:13 PM | 5:03 to 7:51 PM |
| East Orange, New Jersey | 5:12 to 7:00 PM | 4:47 to 7:33 PM |
| Chicago | 5:03 to 6:51 PM | 4:39 to 7:25 PM |
| Houston | 6:00 to 7:55 PM | 5:31 to 8:09 PM |
| San Francisco | 5:32 to 7:22 PM | 5:06 to 7:49 PM |
Our engine's sunset for each of these cities matches the start of Drik's Pradosh Kaal to within a minute. For New Delhi, London, New York and Dubai, the puja windows are in our main guide, Dhanteras 2026: date, puja muhurat and meaning.
We have left Vancouver out. Drik Panchang's Vancouver page for that day appears to use a different clock offset from the one our engine uses, and we could not settle which is right before publishing.
The tithi. Krishna Trayodashi begins at 10:30 AM IST on 6 November and ends at 10:47 AM IST on 7 November, by Drik's figures (our engine gives 10:31 and 10:48 AM). In North America that is the night of 5 to 6 November to the evening or night of 6 November, so the 6 November evening is inside Trayodashi everywhere in the table above.

Buying on Dhanteras: using the slots sensibly
- Shopping in the morning? Labha and Amrita are the two slots families look for.
- Shopping after work abroad? In Toronto and New York, the evening's first good choghadiya is Labha, from about 8:15 to 10 PM. Many stores close earlier, so some families buy earlier in the day and simply bring the item home for the evening puja.
- Nothing has to be bought. Buying metal is a custom, not a condition of the puja. A small steel spoon or a diya is as traditional as gold.
Customs vary by family and region; your family pandit's guidance comes first.
